Dental Crowns in Castle Rock, CO

A dental crown restores a tooth's strength, shape, and appearance. At Peak View Dental, we place same-day crowns using advanced CAD/CAM technology so you leave with a permanent restoration, not a temporary one.

Dental Crowns at Peak View Dental

Crowns are used to cover a tooth that is broken, has a root canal, or has large fillings that are breaking down. In our office we have the technology that allows us to complete a crown from start to finish all in one day and the crowns are beautiful! We use Computer-aided Design and Computer-aided Manufacturing known as CAD/CAM to use a scanner to take pictures of the mouth and make a 3D model of your tooth. No more gooey impressions or waiting 2 weeks in a plastic temporary crown for a laboratory to make your final crown. We can use the same technology to make bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers.

When Is a Dental Crown Needed?

Crowns are one of the most versatile restorations in dentistry. Rather than removing a tooth, a crown allows us to preserve what's there and restore it to full function. You may need one if you have:

  • A cracked or fractured tooth: A crown holds the pieces together and protects the tooth from further splitting under chewing pressure.
  • A tooth with a large or failing filling: When a filling covers more than half a tooth's surface, a crown provides more stable, long-term protection.
  • A tooth after root canal treatment: Root canal therapy removes the nerve, which leaves the remaining tooth structure dry and significantly more prone to fracturing. Without a crown to seal and reinforce it, a root-canaled tooth can crack under normal chewing forces, sometimes to the point where the tooth can no longer be saved.
  • A severely worn-down tooth: Commonly caused by bruxism (teeth grinding).
  • A broken or chipped tooth: When too much structure is lost for a filling to hold reliably, a crown rebuilds the full tooth.
  • Extensive tooth decay: When decay has progressed well beyond what a filling can address, a crown restores what remains of the natural tooth and prevents further breakdown.

If you are unsure whether a crown is the right option, we will review your dental X-rays and discuss all alternatives so you can make a confident decision.

Same-Day CEREC Crowns at Peak View Dental

Most dental offices require multiple appointments and a two-week wait for a crown. At Peak View Dental, we do things differently. Using CAD/CAM technology (Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing), we design, mill, and place your permanent crown in the same day. Here is how it works:

Step 1: Preparation

We will first numb the area with local anesthesia, and then gently shape your natural tooth to make room for the crown.

Step 2: Digital scan of your tooth

We will use a small handheld wand that captures thousands of images of your tooth and surrounding bite in seconds, creating a precise 3D model. No impression material required!

Step 3: Crown design

Either Dr. Vaska or Dr. Sibo will use the digital model to design your crown on-screen, customizing the shape, size, and shade to blend naturally with your surrounding teeth.

Step 4: Milling your crown

Once the design is finalized, it's sent directly to our in-office milling machine. The machine carves your crown from a solid block of ceramic (the same material used in traditional lab-fabricated crowns). Because everything happens here, there's no waiting on a dental lab and no need for a plastic temporary.

Step 5: Final fit and placement

We check your bite alignment, make any adjustments, and permanently cement the crown. You leave with a fully finished, custom restoration the same day!

Caring for Your Dental Crown

Your new crown is permanent and designed to function like a natural tooth from day one. That said, a little extra care in the first few days goes a long way. Here is what to expect and how to look after it:

  • Sensitivity: Mild sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days is common as the tooth settles around the new crown. Some tenderness in the surrounding gum tissue is normal as well and will resolve on its own.
  • If your bite feels off: Because your crown is placed and finalized the same day, we check your bite carefully before you leave. However, if anything feels high or uncomfortable after a day or two, call us. A bite adjustment takes just a few minutes.
  • Ongoing care: Brush and floss daily, including around the crown margin. Avoid chewing ice or very hard foods directly on the crown. If you grind your teeth at night, ask us about a night guard. It protects your crown and extends its life significantly!

Dental Crown Costs and Insurance in Castle Rock

Insurance Coverage for Dental Crowns

Most dental insurance plans classify crowns as a major restorative procedure, covering a percentage of the cost (often 50%) after your deductible is met, up to your plan's annual maximum. Same-day CEREC crowns are billed the same as traditional crowns with most insurance plans and coverage is based on your plan's crown benefit, not the method of fabrication. We are happy to verify your specific benefits before your appointment and will file your claim on your behalf.

Out-of-Pocket Costs

If you do not have insurance, or if coverage does not fully apply, we will walk you through your out-of-pocket cost and available payment options. We want cost to be a conversation, not a surprise. For specific pricing questions, please contact our office at (720) 734-9868.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long do crowns last?
    add

With good oral hygiene, most crowns last 10–15 years or longer. The most common reasons for early crown failure are recurrent decay under the margin (from infrequent flossing), a high bite that was not adjusted, and fracture from grinding or trauma.

  • Does getting a crown hurt?
    add

The tooth and surrounding gum are fully numbed before the procedure begins. Most patients report feeling pressure during preparation but no significant pain. Post-appointment soreness is usually mild and resolves within a few days.

  • How do I know if I need a crown or just a filling?
    add

The main factor is how much healthy tooth structure remains. Fillings work well for smaller areas of decay or damage. When a significant portion of the tooth is compromised (especially after a large filling breaks down or a crack extends through the tooth) a crown distributes forces more evenly and provides better long-term protection. Your dentist will show you your X-rays and explain the reasoning.

  • Can a crown fall off?
    add

Crown dislodgement is uncommon but can happen if the cement breaks down over time or if the underlying tooth develops new decay. If your crown comes loose, save it and call us. We can usually re-cement or evaluate it quickly.

  • Can I get a crown the same day if I have dental anxiety?
    add

Yes. We understand that dental anxiety can make longer appointments feel overwhelming, and we’ll do everything we can to help you feel comfortable. For anxious patients, or anyone who wants a more relaxing visit, we offer comfort options like nitrous oxide, movies with headphones, music, and breaks during treatment. Let us know ahead of time so we can talk through what would help you feel most at ease.

  • Is a same-day crown as strong as a traditional lab crown?
    add

Yes, in many cases, zirconia and ceramic same-day crowns match or exceed the strength of traditionally fabricated crowns. CAD/CAM milling has become the industry standard at many leading dental practices.

  • What happens if I don't get a crown when my dentist recommends one?
    add

A cracked or weakened tooth that is left without a crown often fractures further. Depending on how far the crack progresses, you may eventually lose the tooth entirely or require significantly more complex treatment. Early intervention is almost always the simpler and less expensive path.
